Twin Fluorite and Galena

Opened in 2017 by UK Mining Ventures on the Sutcliffe Vein of the former Rogerley quarry, the Diana Maria Mine continues the story of Weardale’s legendary fluorites, which began in 1972. The workings have since reached the Greenbank Vein, Rogerley’s historic structure.
The Pyjama Pocket (September 2025) is one of the last major discoveries: gemmy emerald-green fluorite twins, about 1 cm across, set on small frosted, predominantly white fluorite cubes that give a fine contrast.
The most sought-after specimens are, as here, associated with small cuboctahedral galena crystals nestled between the fluorites — a rare and highly aesthetic contrast. The blue fluorescence is striking, clearly visible in daylight as well as under LED lighting. The two small twins are perfect, very luminous, and stand out well from the matrix, which hosts numerous crystallized galenas. A photogenic and very fine ensemble.
