Chalcopyrite

 Location: Tonglushan Mine, Edong Mining District, Daye Co., Huangshi, Hubei, China
 Tonglushan is one of the oldest copper mines still in operation (Bronze Age). In 2019, a unique pocket there yielded chalcopyrite spheres initially suspected of being artificial. They turned out to be entirely natural: radial internal structure, aggregates of microspheres measuring 10–100 µm.
 Chalcopyrite filled cracks and cavities; the dissolution of the cement then released the spheres at the bottom of the pockets. EDS analyses (University of Arizona, Stuart Mills, Smithsonian) confirm pure chalcopyrite, simply iridescent on the surface.
 This generously sized piece (8.2 × 5.7 cm, largest sphere 2.5 cm) displays its most sought-after characteristics: rounded shapes, a metallic sheen, and a very airy composition (one sphere has been reinforced). The overall effect is very harmonious and figuratively evokes a cat.
 Groups of this size have virtually disappeared from the market today. An exceptional find; few mineralogical specimens will bring such originality and beauty to your collection!
